A Strong Sense of Place
PLACEMAKING
The landscape design for BAAN TH reinterprets classical garden principles through a contemporary lens, balancing modern minimalism with layered spatial richness. The site’s significant level change—approximately three meters between the public street and the drop-off zone—informs a key design response that celebrates vertical transition as both functional necessity and spatial experience.
A central feature of the design is the Grand Stairs, which mediate this elevation shift while integrating linear planting bands that transform the stairs into a garden promenade. This softens the hardscape, introduces movement, and enhances the experiential quality of transitional element.
At the drop-off, an articulated paving pattern provides human scale across the expansive surface. Framed by ornamental trees, the area is anchored by an oversized planter housing a pair of Wrightia antidysenterica (พุดกุหลาบ) and a quiet fountain—serving as both a traffic guide and a sculptural focal point.
The central courtyard is defined by a lap pool with an infinity edge, terminating at a monumental water wall within a light slot. Water cascades from the pool’s edge into a lower-level garden, generating a subtle waterfall that forms a contemplative backdrop to the stepping landscape below.
Beyond its recreational function, the swimming pool acts as a reflecting surface, channeling natural light into adjacent interior spaces and reinforcing the spatial dialogue between architecture, water, and landscape.
