A Strong  Sense of Place
PLACEMAKING

Located to the east of the existing father’s residence and terminating a shared driveway with the family’s private school, Baan Vipha occupies a uniquely transitional site. The landscape strategy addresses key concerns of privacy, western solar exposure, and security along the residential perimeter, while strengthening spatial relationships within the family compound.

To establish a clear sense of private domain at the end of the shared drive, a textured driveway marks the threshold to the new residence. A grove of willow and plumeria trees frames the approach, creating an immersive and ceremonial arrival experience.

Between the father’s house and Baan Vipha, an existing cluster of trees is preserved and enriched with additional planting to form a bosque garden strip. This linear garden acts as a light filter, acoustic buffer, and soft visual screen, enhancing privacy while maintaining a quiet connection between the two homes.

Within the plot, a corner patio—situated between the main living area and an enclosed pavilion—serves as a transitional outdoor room. At the rear, a compact garden patio offers a shaded retreat for rest and contemplation, completing a sequence of spaces that balances openness and enclosure through thoughtful planting and spatial layering.

Through successive layers of trees, planting, thresholds, and garden rooms, the landscape becomes both buffer and connector—creating privacy without isolation and establishing a calm, protected setting for family life.
