A Breathe of Fresh Green
Landscape Design for Cross 2 Oceanphere Hotel and Pool Villas Softscape Renovation

A Strong Sense of Place
PLACEMAKING
01 Place
The existing landscape at Cross 2 Oceanphere Hotel and Pool Villas had struggled to establish the lush tropical character originally envisioned for the property. A combination of unsuitable plant selection, insufficient soil preparation, and inadequate irrigation resulted in inconsistent growth and a landscape that could not perform successfully over time.
The arrival experience also lacked the presence of larger shade trees needed to soften the architecture, provide climatic comfort, and establish a stronger sense of transition from the hotel lobby toward the pool villas.

02 Making
The landscape renovation is conceived as a breath of fresh green—an opportunity to rebuild the garden with greater resilience while creating a richer and more immersive tropical experience.
The planting palette was reconsidered from the ground up, beginning with improved soil preparation and irrigation. Drought-tolerant and climate-appropriate species were introduced to create a landscape better suited to the site’s conditions and more resilient to seasonal changes.
Larger shade trees were strategically added throughout the arrival and circulation areas, creating a green foreground that softens the architecture while providing much-needed shade. From the hotel lobby toward the pool villas, layers of trees, palms, shrubs, and groundcovers establish a continuous green transition, gradually immersing guests within the landscape.
Rather than relying on a limited planting palette, the new design embraces diversity, layering, and tropical abundance. The result is not simply a refreshed garden, but a more resilient landscape—one designed to mature gracefully and become increasingly immersive over time.
