PLACEMAKING

01 Place

Tucked within a quiet soi off Rama IV Road, S’Vimol Office and Café occupies an unexpectedly peaceful setting in the heart of Bangkok. Away from the intensity of the main road, the site offers a sense of intimacy and seclusion rarely found in such a central urban location.

The main landscape occupies the space between an existing house and the new office building. At its heart stands a magnificent mature ficus tree, whose broad canopy gives the garden an immediate sense of permanence and enclosure. Rather than treating the tree simply as an existing condition, the landscape takes it as the natural anchor of the place.

As one of Thailand’s leading leather fashion brands, S’Vimol brings another layer of identity to the project. Known particularly for its craftsmanship in alligator leather, the brand’s attention to pattern, texture, material, and detail becomes an important point of departure for the landscape.

02 Making

The landscape is conceived as a pattern of refuge—a lush urban garden where nature and the language of fashion come together.

A generous lawn stretches between the old house and the new office, creating a flexible green room for everyday use, gatherings, events, and changing occasions. Around the existing house, a new patio and timber deck extend interior functions into the garden, strengthening the relationship between architecture and landscape.

An elevated reflecting pool introduces another layer to the garden. A gentle overflow and fountains create subtle movement and the sound of running water, bringing a sense of calm to the space and reinforcing its character as a retreat from the surrounding city.

S’Vimol’s identity is expressed through the landscape not as ornament, but through pattern and detail. Sculptural lighting elements incorporate cut patterns inspired by the distinctive texture of alligator leather, while paving, edges, joints, and material transitions are carefully composed with the precision associated with fashion and craftsmanship.

Against these crafted elements, lush and immersive planting envelops the garden and its mature ficus tree. The contrast between precise detailing and abundant vegetation creates a landscape that is both tailored and natural—a quiet refuge shaped by the patterns, textures, and craftsmanship of S’Vimol.
