A Strong Sense of Place
PLACEMAKING
01 Place
Situated along Rama IX Road, the site occupies a highly urban condition, fronting one of Bangkok’s major traffic arteries with an elevated expressway running directly above. The intensity of the surrounding infrastructure presents several challenges, particularly traffic noise, dust, limited privacy, and constantly changing conditions of sun and shade.
At ground level, the landscape serves the Hooth headquarters and showroom, where outdoor spaces must coexist with vehicular access and parking. Surrounded by a dense urban neighborhood, the landscape is conceived as a protective green buffer—filtering the city while creating a more comfortable environment for working, displaying, and gathering.
Above, the character shifts from workplace to residence. The upper level becomes a private retreat from the city, establishing a clear transition between work and domestic life within a single vertical landscape.

02 Making
At ground level, the planting is conceived as a filter garden. A diverse palette of tropical species responds to varying microclimates, from deep shade beneath the elevated expressway to partial shade and areas exposed to direct sun. Layers of vegetation help filter dust, soften traffic noise, provide privacy, and establish a green threshold between the building and the city.
The landscape extends the Hooth showroom into a series of outdoor rooms, providing settings for kitchenette displays and allowing the company’s products to be experienced within a garden environment. Reflecting pools wrap around the interior spaces, introducing water as both an atmospheric and environmental element. The water helps cool the immediate microclimate while reflecting daylight and greenery into the building.
At the residential level, the landscape becomes quieter, more elegant, and minimal. An infinity-edge swimming pool forms the centerpiece, framing dramatic views of the Bangkok skyline and visually extending the residence toward the city. Its reflective surface draws the sky and cityscape into the interior while bouncing natural light into the living spaces.
Together, the two landscapes express the duality of the project: a productive urban workplace below and a private retreat above—a landscape shaped around work, life, and the transition between them.
