01 Place
Set on a hillside on the idyllic island of Koh Yao Noi, the site is a rare setting offering sweeping views across the Phang Nga Bay archipelago. The collection of luxury villas, conceived as private wellness retreats, is shaped by a landscape strategy rooted in thoughtful site and program analysis.
Despite its exceptional outlook, the site presents a series of constraints that must be carefully navigated. The steep terrain poses challenges for vehicular accessibility, while an existing stormwater channel traverses the site. Mature trees require sensitive integration, and the treatment of the property edge must mitigate the risk of potential wildfire spread.

TOPOLA Design’s site planning and design concept seeks to reveal and enhance the site’s most valuable asset—the panoramic views of Phang Nga Bay while embedding the landscape within the rhythms of everyday experience. The landscape strategy is guided by the following principles:
Getting there
The landscape is shaped by the ritual of arrival, where the journey to each private wellness retreat is carefully choreographed. Fleeting glimpses of the villas and Phang Nga Bay are revealed through layered gardens and a rolling terrain, creating a sense of anticipation.
Moving through
Gardens serve as passages that guide residents through an immersive biophilic sequence. Spaces unfold gradually, revealing the architecture and the island while framing curated vistas toward the bay.
Reading the land
The design draws out the site’s full potential through an immersive landscape approach, allowing residents to engage with and experience the site’s inherent beauty.
