A Strong Sense of Place
PLACEMAKING
01 Place
Set along the dense and fast-moving Rama III corridor, The Key Rama III is shaped by the realities of contemporary Bangkok—traffic, noise, heat, dust, and increasingly limited green space. Yet its location also presents an important geographical opportunity. Although not directly on the waterfront, the site sits in close proximity to the Chao Phraya River, with elevated views toward the river, Rama III Bridge to the west, Rama IX Bridge to the east, and the wider Bangkok skyline.
The landscape begins by recognizing these contrasting conditions: the intensity of the city at ground level and the openness of the river and sky above.

02 Making
At ground level, landscape becomes a means of protection and transition. A layered green frontage creates distance from the road, while trees and dense planting provide shade and help filter the surrounding urban environment. Shaded walkways, gardens, screens, and communal spaces form a gradual sequence from the city toward a quieter and more intimate residential landscape.
The architectural language is extended into the landscape through a series of rhythmic vertical lines. Inspired by the precast concrete and aluminium fins of the building façade, this rhythm is reinterpreted through screens, walls, pavilions, and landscape elements—creating a continuous design language between architecture and landscape.
As the landscape rises through the building, the experience shifts from enclosure to openness. Green spaces are distributed across multiple levels, from the ground floor and swimming pool terrace to elevated gardens and the rooftop. The Sky Pool is oriented toward panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River and the city beyond, transforming the distant river landscape into part of the everyday experience of the project.
Through the design process, urban constraints become the generators of the landscape. Shade, vegetation, rhythm, enclosure, movement, and borrowed views work together to create a place that responds specifically to the site—protected from the intensity of the city below while remaining connected to the river, skyline, and larger landscape of Bangkok.
