A Strong Sense of Place
PLACEMAKING
01 Place
Context and Identity
Pattaya, a vibrant coastal city just a few hours away from Bangkok, is renowned for its dynamic energy and as a quick urban escape for leisure and entertainment. Beyond its beaches and nightlife, Pattaya is also known as Thailand’s party capital, a “sin city” of sorts, shaped by decades of unrestrained tourism.
Located in Na Jomtien, set back from the bustling beachfront, the site provides an ideal canvas for a hideaway. Here, the architecture and landscape mediates between the energy of the city and the serenity of the shore, a sanctuary that reflects both vibrancy and calmness.

Design Language and Spatial Experience
TOPOLA Design seeks to redefine POP Hotel Pattaya as a verdant destination for restoration amidst the city’s vibrant party culture—offering spaces of calm and reflection while still embracing its energy. The landscape design aspires to create a strong sense of escape, where visitors can slow down, reconnect with nature, and rediscover balance during their downtime.
A distinct identity is established through a clear and expressive visual language. Fluid forms and rounded geometries, abstracted from ocean waves and sand dunes, create a visual continuity between nature and architecture. A recurring diagonal motif unifies key spaces, generating rhythm and coherence across the site—a visual echo of movement between the shore and the city.
Drawing inspiration from coastal ecology, the planting design embodies resilience and immersion. The palette features wind- and salt-tolerant tropical evergreens, complemented by richly textured and vibrant tropical species, creating a lush retreat that celebrates the character of the coast and a spirit of renewal.
Arrival Sequence
The main arrival plaza introduces a strong sense of arrival, where diagonal paving guides visitors toward the entrance pavilion — a grand gesture framed by tropical greenery. A secondary entry contrasts this formality with a more intimate garden path shaded by a trellised canopy that filters light and softens the transition from city to retreat.
Courtyard and Pool Terrace
At the heart of the property, the courtyard connects the terrace and main swimming pool, extending seamlessly from the lobby and all-day dining area. A series of interlocking decks create layered zones for lounging and gathering, while a rounded pergola above provides dappled shade and visual softness. The lagoon-inspired pool, rectilinear yet softened by curves, accommodates varied aquatic experiences — from lap swimming and lounging to jacuzzis and children’s areas.
Pool-access units feature private steps and sun decks, while corner suites enjoy semi-private pools discreetly screened by hedges and fountains, ensuring comfort and seclusion.
The Secret Garden
Secluded at the site’s edge, the Secret Garden offers a quiet escape — a romantic enclosure framed by tall hedges. Classical garden elements such as a seating folly, flowering pergola, stepping stones, and a fountain lend timeless character. Ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and silvery foliage evoke the atmosphere of a rediscovered tropical garden — intimate, reflective, and unexpectedly tranquil.
